Destructive behaviors are the undesirable behavioral patterns that individuals display and that have the potentiality to negatively impact the quality of life he/she leads. When persons display undesirable behaviors, they are being influenced by ongoing issues that are destabilizing their normal psychological balance. The type and severity of destructive behaviors vary, but may include substance abuse, lack of engagement in school/work, distancing from positive supports, and self-harm.
Each individual may have different reasons for displaying destructive behavior. Common issues such as self-harm, psychological disorders, and drug abuse can be categorized as destructive behaviors. If not addressed, destructive behavioral patterns are likely to result in horrible or sometimes life-threatening consequences. No matter the destructive behavior a person is struggling with, he/she needs immediate treatment. Luckily, there are many forms of help for distressed adolescents struggling with this issue, including transitional living programs and residential treatment. The wellness and therapeutic guidance that they need are available to help them get back normalcy.
