Assessment is defined as evaluation method that assists to properly diagnose and assign a person’s needs. Good assessments are designed, applied, and scored in a controlled and steady manner. In most cases, they make use of a multi-choice format, but a number of them include short-answer, open-ended questions to measure a person’s capability and incapability in an emotional, educational, or social manner.  Assessing clinicians are trained to adhere to the assessment model, apply motivational interviewing techniques to draw out answers, and accurately diagnose conditions based on information gleaned from the assessment process. Typically assessments take into consideration personal experience, school and/or work performance, social factors, family history, behavioral and mental health issues, as well as trauma history.
